Ganesha Chaturthi: A day of incarnation of Lord Ganesha

Ganesha Chaturthi celebrated as birthday of Lord Ganesha forms to be one of the most flamboyantly celebrated events in Jaipur. Ganesha known as Lord of Riddhi (knowledge) and Siddhi (auspiciousness) is revered with merriment and devotion. Echo of ‘Ganpati Bappa Moriya’ and ‘Jai Shri Ganesha’ create a flow of the heavenly hymns. These soul touching chants add a colour to the entire celebration of Ganesha Chaturthi. Thousands of devotees queue up at Moti Dungri Ganesha temple and showcase their greatest enthusiasm and devotion to be part of celebration. Devotees offer Modaks (Ladoos) an auspicious offering to deity Lord Ganesha. A procession along with various tableaux of Lord Ganesha is undertaken that covers different parts of Jaipur city. Shingar of Ganesha idol is done as per the Hindu rituals. Jhanki of Ladoos of various sizes is organized. The entire ambiance marvellously overflows with pious strength.

Festival of Krishna Janamasthami commemorates the birthday of Lord Krishna (the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu). Also known as Gokulashtami, Krishnashtami, Ashtami Rohini or as Srikrishna Jayanti this religious festival is celebrated on the eight day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Shravana (August-September) as per the Hindu Calendar. The divine gala takes place at the midnight as Krishna made is heavenly emergence in that hour. Rituals like fasting and bhajans mark the celebration of Krishna Janamasthami all over India. Annkuta or Govardhan Puja is celebrated next day of Diwali (Hindu festival of lights). This day depicts one of the events in childhood of Shri Krishna. It is a day when Shri Krishna protected cowherd family of Vrindavan from the anger of Lord Indra (God of Rains) by lifting the Govardhan Hill. On defeating Indra, Shri Krishna on his champion like achievement was gloriously surrounded by family of cowherds. They celebrated Shri Krishna’s accomplishment with sumptuous delicacies. Lord Ganesha temple at Moti Dungri is decorated and given a stunning look. Huge number of devotees participates unequivocally in the celebration to attain the blessing of Lord Krishna to seek peace and success in their lives. The ritual ceremony of milk ablution of deities is conducted. The deities are ornamented and dressed in shinning outfits. Traditional prayers and ceremonial activities are organized and variety of scrumptious sweets is presented as offerings to the deities. A mountain of offerings denoting Govardhan Parbhat (mountain) is decorated. The devotees in different states celebrate this festival with zeal and religious fervour.

Paush Bada (any suitable day of Paush month)

Paush Bada is a month long festival celebrated during Paush month particularly in Jaipur, Rajasthan. This festival is celebrated to offer a grand welcome to winter season. Paush Bada is one of the biggest religious festivals celebrated at Lord Ganesha Moti Dungri temple. Devotees from different places throng at temple to be part of the traditional celebration. Paush being the coldest month of winters, "Paush Badas' a main food item is prepared and served hot to the deity and disciples. Prepared from Green Gram (Moong Daal) and different Indian spices such as chilly, black pepper (Kali Mirch), Coriander powder (Dhania) and Aniseed (Saunf), Paush Bada holds anti cold properties and helps in fighting cold during winters. Visitors wait in long queues to take pleasure of the winter special religious offering of snack 'Paush Bada'.
